DeleteHi Jörgen.
The guys in the pictures built a playhouse for kids in a kindergarten. The pupils in third grade can choose what they want to do for their project. They have to document what they’ve done with pictures, movies and paperwork. Time totally for the project is about 90-95 hours totally.
In the painter booth the student training to putty, decorate the walls with wallpaper and paint walls and roof. They can do different moments over and over again.
Hi Joakim
ReplyDeleteThis looks good. Is there a problem with paint fumes in such a confined space?
I have seen some places where the painting students paint the teaching rooms and workshops also. Do your students ever do that?
In the organisation that I used to teach in all the other teachers would be eager to have the painting students come to their classrooms and paint them every few years. It worked very well for everyone. The interior design students would work together with the painting students and the teachers who wanted their rooms painted and they would all decide on what to do. It made everyone happy.

Hi Susanne
DeleteWe have restored many of our teaching rooms and workshops with the students. They’re not in the booths all the time. But you can train many moments in the booths, like to putty, wallpaper and of course painting. It sounds great to have a fresh school.
Once again I have to comment that I really like the way that Susanne thinks!! Of course, it would place greater responsibility on the teacher to make sure the students do the work properly, but if the students could do work that develops their school environment at the same time as they develop their skills then a truly great learning situation has been made!!
DeleteAnd again I see it as an opportunity to create and foster respect across different trades, and genders, and hopefully increased respect for the school environment itself! I would think that a student who puts in effort to use his skill painting a classroom is much less likely to vandalize it later!
I see both painting and woodwork. I guess this is the building program, do alla studetns try all kinds of building ´work? What will happen with the house they build indoors?
ReplyDeleteIngemar
Yes, it’s a building program. In the beginning of the first year the students will try different professions, but later on they’ll concentrate in the profession they want to learn.
DeleteThe student’s house in the workshop is just a small scaled model of a house. But they will train many moments in their occupation. The house is just for practice in the workshop.
How many students is it in your programme?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the maximum number in a class?
Nice pictures and interesting to see how you have it.
Hi
DeleteWe are a small school with 80 students totally in all programs. We have 25 students in the building program spread on three classes. The maximum number we have in one class is 11 students.
Is it a popular program for studetns to choose?
ReplyDeleteYes, it´s the most popular program in our school.
