The students work in pairs when assembling their articles. The two students here are spot welding a lobster back bend. Working in pairs increases the finished quality of the article.
Hi Anders, on any day I teach approximatley 16-18 students. The Canberra Intitute of Technology at Fyshwick(Canberra) is a trade skill campus so has multiple trade areas, in the whole campus I would say around 300+ on the day. (thats a ball park figure)
Hi Ingemar, The students are achieving competencies and with competency based training its not time served but knowledge and skills learnt and then retained. The apprentices sign a training contract which is for four years, their training at Fyshiwck Trade Skills Centre(Canberra) is for three years. Some students complete earlier while some may take longer. The apprentices attend training for one full day starting at 7.30 in the morning to 4.00pm in the afternoon. the remainder of the week is with their employer.
I am also interested to hear how many weeks they have practice? Have the students throughout the week or are they looking for example, two days a week for a long time?
G'day, My apprentices attend for 30 weeks at one day a week through the year. Some of my mechanical students attend 3-4 days at a time. mainly due to their distance away from CIT (Canberra Institute of Technology). These apprentices travel maybe 3 hours to get here, then 3 hours home. this turns into a very big day for those studnets, so we offer blocks.
how many students are there in the school?

ReplyDeleteAre the students out on practice in private firms as well, or is the the firm where they are apprentices?
